This is the last scene in Edwin S. Porter's "The Great Train Robbery," when the leader of the outlaws, played by Justus D. Barnes, empties his pistol at the audience. It cause quote a fright in theaters because no one had seen anything like it before. WARNING: Graphic images. This is a montage of photographs that Alexander Gardner and his associates took shortly after the Battle of Gettyburg, and before the filed had been completedly cleared of the dead. Added to the stench of decaying bodies, there was also the aroma of 5,000 dead horses that had not been removed from the battlefield. It was a grim task indeed. NOTE: The music is clear and in the public domain. It can either be used or rejected, or utilized for another scene.

Annie Oakley was probably the most famous marksman/woman in the world when this short clip was produced in Edison's Black Maria studio in West Orange, New Jersey. Barely five feet tall, Annie was always associated with the wild west, although she was born in 1860 as Phoebe Ann Oakley Mozee (or Moses)in Darke County, Ohio. Nevertheless, she was a staple in the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show and similar wild west companies. Because of her diminutive stature, she was billed as "Little Sure...

Public kissing was greatly frowned upon during the uptight Victorian era, when this scene was produced in Thomas Edison's new glass-topped studio in New York City. As a result, the movie was banned in most areas (which of course, only made it more popular). Sadly, the two lovers have come down through history as unknowns, but their behavior is most familiar. In their day, this popular sport was called "sparkin'" if it took place inside (usually in the parlor), or "spoonin'"...

This is a clip of the Hydrogen Bomb test at Enewetak Atoll on November 1, 1952, and the first time one was exploded. The fireball was big enough to cover most of Manhattan Island. This clip show more of the aftermath of the nuclear cloud than do most films.
